Studly: an appreciation of stud earrings.

I am a die-hard hoop girl, but lately I find I have a new appreciation for stud earrings. Or at least for the look of them. I don’t yet know how much I’ll appreciate wearing them, but I’ve got a pair being custom made for me in citrine by Garnet Girl Designs on Etsy.

This specimen, in white topaz and sterling, is only $34. The designer uses recycled metals whenever possible, which I love. And she’ll do custom orders (like mine) in other stones, depending on what she has available.

But I’ve been stalking other stud earrings on Etsy too, like these teeny black diamonds from One Stone New York:

2.8 mm stones set in white gold with silver posts and backs, $110. The designer only uses recycled metals and ethically sourced gems.

A totally affordable alternative to the sparkly gems is available from Kate Szabone: satin finish silver studs.

4, 5, or 6 mm studs for $18.

Something less traditional (and therefore right up my alley): this pair of drusy Uvarovite garnet studs by MSO Joies.

The stones are 12 X 12 mm and very striking. $100.

And one of my very favorite jewelry designers on Etsy (seriously, I fave just about every listing she posts), McFarland Designs, just today added earrings to her shop (for the first time?). Check out these incredible green tourmalines:

They’re 3 mm stones set in white gold, $208. Bonus: the designer is a dedicated vegan who uses no animal derivatives in her jewelry, she uses recycled metals, and has just transitioned to using fairly traded stones exclusively. Woot woot!
